The Seahawks ruled out Quenton Nelson on Friday for Sunday's game against Arizona after the left guard needed a minor knee procedure, with coach Mike Macdonald calling him week-to-week as RSO owners set Week 9 lineups.
Ian Rapoport reports that cartilage fragments have been causing problems in Nelson's knee and that the plan is to avoid injured reserve. Macdonald also said Seattle does not plan to put Nelson on IR, leaving his return date open.
Grey Zabel moves back to left guard and Anthony Bradford returns at right guard. Drew Lock will start against the Cardinals with a right elbow issue, Macdonald confirmed Friday, with Jalen Milroe as the backup. Check Lock's weekend status before locking a Seattle quarterback into a contract slot.
Friday board
The Ravens completed the Jacoby Brissett trade after Thursday's loss. Cleveland named Shedeur Sanders the Week 9 starter at New Orleans with Deshaun Watson still in concussion protocol; Jeremy Fowler notes the Browns have no plans to deal Sanders at the deadline.
Christian McCaffrey cleared Friday's injury report and will play Sunday versus the Raiders, while San Francisco ruled out Deebo Samuel (hamstring), Mike Evans (Achilles) and Christian Kirk (knee). Nick Bosa is also cleared to return, per Adam Schefter. Philadelphia ruled out DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle). New England ruled out A.J. Brown and TreVeyon Henderson. Washington ruled out Treylon Burks and Dyami Brown. The Rams ruled out Terrance Ferguson. Cam Skattebo is doubtful for New York. The Eagles released Dameon Pierce from IR with an injury settlement.
Kyle Monangai returned to practice Friday and was listed questionable, then Rapoport said he is not expected to play Sunday night against Tampa Bay. Treat that as an expected-out until game-day confirmation.
Aiyuk meeting
Brandon Aiyuk and agent Drew Rosenhaus met with 49ers officials Friday. Aiyuk told reporters he felt fully healthy and wanted reinstatement to the NFL.
The meeting ended without an announced resolution. Rosenhaus told reporters "To be continued," according to on-site reporting. Keep any dynasty valuation separate from a Week 9 lineup decision until reinstatement and a team role are confirmed.
What to do now
Hold McCaffrey after the clear. Sit or replace Smith, Samuel, Evans, Brown, Henderson, Burks, and Nelson for Sunday. Stash Brissett if you need Baltimore quarterback depth, and treat Sanders as a Week 9 streamer only until Watson's protocol clears. Wait on Aiyuk for reinstatement news before paying for immediate production.
Watch Saturday designations for Monangai, Skattebo, Shakir's personal absence, and Lock's elbow before kickoff.
