Ravens sign Kedon Slovis as Jackson and Huntley sit out Thursday

Baltimore is adding Kedon Slovis to its 53-man roster off Green Bay's practice squad two days before a Thursday night game against Jacksonville. Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley are ruled out, and Joe Fagnano is nursing an ankle injury.

  • The Baltimore Ravens are signing quarterback Kedon Slovis to their 53-man roster off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad, Tom Pelissero said Tuesday morning. Mike Garafolo and ProFootballTalk also have the move, and it comes two days before Baltimore plays Jacksonville on Thursday night with its top two quarterbacks unavailable.

  • What's confirmed

Lamar Jackson (thumb) and Tyler Huntley (toe) have both been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Jaguars, Adam Schefter said Tuesday, citing ESPN's Jamison Hensley. Jackson is headed to injured reserve after thumb surgery. Huntley did not practice Monday.

Rookie Joe Fagnano, the next man up, is dealing with an ankle injury. He was listed as limited on Monday's projected practice report, and coach Jesse Minter said Fagnano has "a chance" to play Thursday.

Baltimore signed Austin Reed to its practice squad on Monday. With Slovis added, the Thursday options are Fagnano, Reed and Slovis.

    Why Slovis

  • Slovis appeared in two games for Arizona last season. Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork was with him in Arizona, and Pelissero and Garafolo both pointed to that link as the reason Baltimore picked him. The Ravens have not named a Thursday starter.

What it means for RSO owners

None of these three quarterbacks belongs on an RSO roster as a starter, and none is worth a contract bid in a dynasty league. The move matters because of what it says about the Ravens' passing game for at least one more week. Baltimore's fourth- and fifth-string options are now the backstop if Fagnano's ankle doesn't hold up.

Derrick Henry is the one Raven who keeps a clear weekly role, and a run-heavy plan makes sense with this quarterback group. Treat Baltimore's pass catchers as lower-floor plays this week and set lineups with that in mind before Thursday's kickoff, since TNF locks early.

If you roster Jackson, his IR stint is the bigger dynasty question. Keep him stashed rather than selling at a low point unless your league's contract and cap math says otherwise.

    What to watch next

Watch Baltimore's Tuesday and Wednesday injury reports for Fagnano's practice status. A full practice points to him starting. If he drops to a non-participant, Reed or Slovis could start Thursday, and the Ravens may add one more arm before kickoff.
