Rookies to watch: Emmett Johnson joins the list after a 128-yard game

Emmett Johnson's 73-yard touchdown at Denver puts a fifth-round pick on RSO's first rookies-to-watch list. Carnell Tate still leads on production, with Jonah Coleman and two Browns receivers close behind.

  • Kansas City rookie Emmett Johnson turned five catches into 128 yards and a 73-yard touchdown in Sunday's 28-24 loss at Denver, according to ESPN's box score, and that game moves him onto our first Monday list of NFL rookies to watch. Every ranking below comes from ESPN's season stats through Sunday's Week 8 games. Seattle and Chicago still play Monday night.

  • 1. Carnell Tate, WR, Titans (No. 4 pick). Tate leads this list with 34 catches for 413 yards and a touchdown on 51 targets in seven games. The Titans ruled him out of Sunday's game at Cincinnati, so his practice reports this week matter more than anything else on this page.

    2. Emmett Johnson, RB, Chiefs (No. 161). A fifth-round pick with 14 catches for 237 yards and 77 rushing yards on 20 carries. His 128 receiving yards Sunday came on five targets, so the volume is still thin.

    3. Jonah Coleman, RB, Broncos (No. 108). In his second game back from IR, Coleman ran 11 times for 41 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 63 yards. Underdog NFL noted he is the first Broncos running back this season with 100 scrimmage yards in a game. In four games he has 134 rushing yards and two scores.

    4. Denzel Boston, WR, Browns (No. 39). Boston has 26 catches for 409 yards and three touchdowns. He drew 11 targets at Pittsburgh on Sunday and caught six for 37 yards.

    5. KC Concepcion, WR, Browns (No. 24). Concepcion has 33 catches for 352 yards on 49 targets, so Cleveland is feeding two rookie receivers every week.

  • 6. Makai Lemon, WR, Eagles (No. 20). Lemon caught six of nine targets for 57 yards on Sunday night and has 31 catches for 251 yards on the season.

    7. Jeremiyah Love, RB, Cardinals (No. 3). Love has 268 rushing yards on 76 carries and a score each way in six games. He ran nine times for 23 yards at Dallas after his ankle injury, so the No. 3 pick is still rounding into form.

Watch next: Jets receiver Omar Cooper Jr. has 12 catches for 248 yards and two touchdowns in four games.

For RSO owners, rookie deals are the cheapest production in a contract league. Hold Tate and Love through the slow stretches, and price Johnson and Coleman off this week's role rather than one long touchdown. Check Wednesday's Titans practice report for Tate and the Broncos' carry split against their next opponent.
