Ashton Jeanty gets two carries as Mike Washington Jr. leads Raiders

Raiders coach Klint Kubiak said Sunday that limiting Jeanty to two carries in the 38-33 win over the Jets was his call. Mike Washington Jr. carried 25 times, and Jeanty owners now need to watch whether the split sticks.

  • Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty got two carries in Sunday's 38-33 win over the Jets, and coach Klint Kubiak said afterward that the reduced workload was his decision. Jeanty said the plan was "communicated" to him before kickoff. Both comments came from the postgame media session, and the ESPN box score shows the split.

  • What's confirmed

Mike Washington Jr. took over the backfield work with 25 carries for 83 yards, a 3.3-yard average with a long of 15. Jeanty ran twice for 9 yards. He still made plays in the passing game, catching 3 of 4 targets for 64 yards, including a 45-yard gain.

Kubiak's words were direct: "That's my call, and Ashton still going to be a big part of our team."

Jeanty did not push back in public. "We won. It doesn't matter how I feel about how [many] times I get the ball," he said. "Whatever it takes for the team to win, I just want to win."

Kirk Cousins threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as Las Vegas snapped a four-game losing streak, per ESPN.

  • What isn't settled

Nobody has said whether this is a one-week game plan or a new pecking order. Kubiak described the decision as his and kept the door open for Jeanty, but he did not give a reason or say what the split looks like next week. A win also makes it easier for a staff to stick with what worked.

What RSO owners should do now

Jeanty owners should not panic-sell. He is young, on a rookie deal that runs for years, and still drew four targets on limited snaps. His trade value just dipped, though, so if you are shopping for a running back, this is the week to ask about him.

If Washington is on your waiver wire, add him. Twenty-five carries is a lead-back workload, and contract-league owners can get him at a minimum salary while the role sorts itself out.

    What to watch next

Watch Kubiak's Monday and Wednesday press conferences for any explanation, the early-down snap split in next week's game, and whether Jeanty's receiving role grows to make up for fewer carries.
