Here is what is confirmed. McDaniel stays on the call sheet. The Chargers are 0-6, the league's last winless team, and they average 15.0 points per game, worst in the NFL. Their last game before the bye was a 22-6 loss to Kansas City with 259 total yards.
Justin Herbert is tied for the league lead with eight interceptions. McDaniel came over this offseason after four years as Miami's head coach, and he rebuilt Herbert's shotgun stance in the spring. So far the results have gone the wrong way.
On the injury front, Harbaugh said McConkey remains in the protocol but will practice Wednesday. He expects Tre' Harris (hamstring) to practice as well. Brenen Thompson (quad) will not. McConkey has not played since the concussion that kept him out at Kansas City.
What this means for RSO owners: there is no new voice coming to rescue this offense. Any bounce for Herbert, McConkey or the backfield has to come from the same system, cleaner execution and better health. That makes the next two games a real test rather than a fresh start.
What to do now: hold McConkey. A return to practice is the first step out of the protocol, and his price on the trade market is about as low as it will get, with trade chatter already swirling ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline. If you are a buyer, this is a fair window to ask. If you start Herbert in a superflex league, keep a backup plan ready until the turnovers slow down.
