Saquon Barkley faces a snap count as Eagles visit Commanders on SNF

Barkley is set to play with a limited workload Sunday night, and the Eagles are without DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks. Washington is thin on the defensive line with Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw out.

  • Saquon Barkley is expected to play on a snap count Sunday night when the Eagles (2-5) visit the Commanders (1-4-1) at 8:20 PM ET on NBC, according to a Fox Sports report relayed by Underdog NFL. Barkley has been dealing with hamstring and back issues, and he carried no game designation on the Eagles' final injury report.

  • The other Philadelphia news this weekend points the same way. NFL Network said Sunday morning that the Eagles will not trade Barkley before the deadline and see him as part of their 2027 roster. That settles his address. It does not settle his workload tonight.

    What is confirmed

The official report has DeVonta Smith (hamstring), Dontayvion Wicks (ankle), Britain Covey (knee) and linebacker Jihaad Campbell (hamstring) out for Philadelphia. Smith leads the Eagles with 26 catches for 310 yards and two touchdowns, so Jalen Hurts loses his top target. Hurts has 933 passing yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions this season.

Washington has defensive tackles Daron Payne (foot) and Javon Kinlaw (knee) out, with Jer'Zhan Newton on injured reserve. That is a thin interior for a team trying to slow Barkley. Receiver Treylon Burks and tight end John Bates are questionable, and ESPN said Sunday that Burks is expected to play.

DraftKings has Washington favored by six with a total of 40.5. The forecast at Northwest Stadium calls for about 50 degrees.

What RSO owners should do now

If you start Barkley, accept a lower floor tonight. A snap count usually means fewer early-down carries and less work near the goal line, and there is no clear number on how many snaps he gets. In contract leagues, his long-term value is steadier after the trade news, so this is not a week to sell him cheap.

  • Smith's absence pushes more targets toward the Eagles' remaining pass catchers, but no one has been named as the clear replacement. On the other side, Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin and Jacory Croskey-Merritt face a defense playing without cornerback Jakorian Bennett, who is on injured reserve. Croskey-Merritt has 239 rushing yards and two scores on 67 carries.

    What to watch next

Inactives come out about 90 minutes before kickoff. After that, track Barkley's share of early snaps and whether Philadelphia leans on its backup backs in the second half. Watch Smith's hamstring at the start of practice this week, and keep the trade deadline in view for both teams.
