  • The Houston Texans placed wide receiver Jaylin Noel on injured reserve Wednesday with turf toe, the team announced, according to Pro Football Talk. The Houston Chronicle followed with word from a source that Noel is expected to miss the rest of the season and needs surgery on the toe.

  • Here is what is confirmed. Noel is on IR, which keeps him out at least four games, and Houston filled the roster spot by claiming running back Emari Demercado off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas cut Demercado on Tuesday.

The season-ending part comes from the Chronicle's source, and a league source told Aaron Wilson the injury is regarded as season-ending. The team has not put a timeline on surgery or recovery. Treat the full-season loss as the likely outcome, though it isn't official yet.

Noel got hurt in Sunday's loss to the Giants and was in a boot afterward. Before that, he had become one of the few bright spots in a rough Texans offense. He has 19 catches on 23 targets for 331 yards and two touchdowns in seven games, per ESPN, and his 17.4 yards per catch made him the vertical threat in the room. As a rookie in 2025 he played all 17 games and caught 26 passes for 292 yards and two scores.

Demercado is a depth add. He ran five times for 15 yards in two appearances for Dallas, and he has now been waived twice this fall. He shouldn't be expected to carry a fantasy role in Houston right away.

For RSO owners, the call on Noel is simple. Move him to your IR slot if your league has one, so the roster spot opens for a waiver claim this week. If you're paying him on a cheap rookie deal, hold him. He's 24, he's controlled through the length of that contract, and a toe surgery in October shouldn't cost him 2027. Don't cut him to save a roster spot unless you're truly desperate.

  • The targets he leaves behind should flow to the Texans receivers already on the field, so check who runs the most routes from the slot and outside this week before you bid.

What to watch next: whether Houston confirms the surgery and an official timeline, the Texans' first injury report Thursday, and who replaces Noel's snaps in Week 9.
