Lamar Jackson will start Sunday at Buffalo after missing three games

Ravens coach Jesse Minter named Jackson the starter, and the team gave him no injury designation for the Bills game. Owners should put him back in lineups, while keeping an eye on how much he runs.

  • Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said Friday that quarterback Lamar Jackson will start Sunday's game at Buffalo. Jackson has missed the past three games with a high ankle sprain, and the Ravens' official game status list carries no injury designation for him.

  • What is confirmed

Minter announced the decision after practice, per Adam Schefter, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Rapoport added that Jackson was a full participant in practice again. A few hours later the team posted its game statuses for the Bills game, and Jackson was not on it. Tom Pelissero and Schefter both confirmed he has no designation.

That removes the uncertainty that hung over Wednesday's full session. Practicing fully is one step. A head coach naming him the starter and the team leaving him off the status list is the step that matters for lineups.

    The one caution

Jackson told reporters he still feels pain when he plants his foot, but called it manageable, per Underdog NFL. A high ankle sprain can affect how often a quarterback runs, and the designed runs are a big part of his fantasy value. Expect the Ravens to call a few fewer of them in his first game back.

What RSO owners should do now

Start Jackson. If you were holding him through the three missed games, this is the payoff, and no bench quarterback on most rosters offers his ceiling.

If you picked up a short-term starter to cover the absence, you can let that player go after you set your lineup, unless your league starts two quarterbacks. In superflex formats, keep the depth a little longer in case the ankle flares up.

  • On the other side, Buffalo listed receiver DJ Moore and tight end Dalton Kincaid as questionable, so check those statuses before Sunday if you roster Bills pass catchers.

    What to watch next

Track Jackson's rushing attempts on Sunday. A normal workload on the ground would say the ankle is behind him. A pocket-only game would suggest the Ravens are still protecting it, and Monday's injury report will show whether he came out of it healthy.
