Here is what is confirmed. Schoen announced the IR placement himself, and Adam Schefter and Mike Garafolo both relayed it within minutes. ESPN's Jordan Raanan added that the injury won't be long term, but Tracy has to miss at least four games under IR rules. Garafolo described it the same way: not a long-term problem, but four games down.
The Giants are also adding a running back. Per Raanan, they are signing Greg Desrosiers off the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad to take the open roster spot. Desrosiers went undrafted out of Memphis.
New York is on its bye this week, and the bye doesn't count toward the four games. The team has not given a specific return date, and hamstrings can linger, so treat any target week as a guess until he's back at practice.
This thins out the Giants backfield. The team released Najee Harris on Oct. 20, and with Tracy out, Cam Skattebo and Devin Singletary are the backs left with real experience in this offense. Desrosiers is a depth signing, not a player to roster.
What RSO owners should do now
If you roster Tracy, move him to your IR slot if your league has one. Don't cut him. The injury is short term, and his contract value doesn't change because of a four-game absence.
