  • Denver Broncos running back RJ Harvey is out for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Broncos ruled him out on their Friday injury report with a knee injury, and Adam Schefter of ESPN relayed the news minutes later.

  • What is confirmed

The team's Friday report lists Harvey as out with a knee injury. He was limited Thursday and did not practice Friday, according to Denver reporter Zac Stevens, who added that Harvey was only on the field for part of Thursday's session that was open to the media.

The same report rules out safety Talanoa Hufanga and lists receiver Jaylen Waddle (chest) as questionable, along with left tackle Garett Bolles, defensive lineman Zach Allen and safety Brandon Jones. Cornerback Pat Surtain is cleared to play.

    What is still expected

Broncos reporter Chris Tomasson expects the Broncos to elevate running back Cody Schrader from the practice squad on Saturday. That is a projection, so check Saturday's roster moves before you treat Schrader as part of the plan.

Why it matters for RSO owners

Harvey is in his second season. Going from limited to a full miss in one day points to a knee issue that got worse during the week, which also puts Week 9 in some doubt.

His absence leaves rookie Jonah Coleman and veteran J.K. Dobbins as the other backs on the active roster. Coleman owners stand to gain the most if the work tilts his way against a tough Kansas City defense.

  • What to do now

Bench Harvey and swap in a back who plays Sunday. If you roster Coleman, he moves into flex range this week. In deeper contract leagues, Dobbins is worth a look if he is sitting on your waiver wire, since cutting a cheap back costs little.

Do not cut or deal Harvey over one missed game. Knee injuries that keep a player out a single week often look different by the next Wednesday.

    What to watch next

Watch Saturday's practice squad elevations and the inactive list about 90 minutes before the 4:25 PM ET kickoff on CBS. After that, Wednesday's practice report will show whether Harvey is on track for Week 9 or whether the knee needs more time.
