Tommy Tremble caught his second touchdown of the afternoon after Philadelphia had cut Carolina’s lead to five, giving the Panthers the separation they needed for a 25-14 road win Sunday.
Bryce Young’s 19-yard pass to Tremble made it an 11-point game in the fourth quarter. It followed a stalled Eagles possession and a short punt, an opening Carolina finally converted into points. The Panthers improved to 3-2, while Philadelphia dropped to 2-4.
Chuba Hubbard supplied the steady work between the scoring plays, carrying 28 times for 120 yards and a touchdown. Young finished 20 of 39 for 281 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Jalen Coker caught six passes for 97 yards, Tetairoa McMillan had six for 86, and Tremble turned four catches into 46 yards and both passing touchdowns.
A long drive provides breathing room
The Panthers led 10-7 at halftime after Young’s 12-yard touchdown pass to Tremble and a Philadelphia scoring run by Dameon Pierce. Ryan Fitzgerald’s 52-yard field goal extended Carolina’s lead to six in the third quarter, but the game remained close.
Young then found Coker for 32 yards on third-and-8 near Carolina’s own goal line. Hubbard kept the possession alive with a 19-yard run on fourth-and-1. His short touchdown early in the fourth quarter completed the drive and made it 19-7 after an unsuccessful two-point try.
Philadelphia responded. Tanner McKee connected with DeVonta Smith for a 19-yard touchdown, bringing the Eagles within 19-14. Carolina went three-and-out, giving the home team a chance to take the lead. Instead, a bad snap cost Philadelphia 12 yards on the next possession. The short punt that followed gave Young and Tremble their opportunity to answer.
The defense limits a depleted offense
McKee started with Jalen Hurts on injured reserve. Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby were also unavailable, leaving the Eagles short of their usual backfield options. Philadelphia finished with 222 total yards, including only 35 rushing, while Carolina collected three sacks.
McKee completed 26 of 45 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown. Smith, returning after missing two games, had seven catches for 75 yards. Those numbers were not enough to offset an offense that punted on its first five possessions.
Carolina also gave Philadelphia chances through penalties. The Panthers were flagged 13 times for 149 yards, including infractions that wiped out returns. Coach Dave Canales called the penalty total “outrageous” in the team’s postgame report.
The win brought injury concerns of its own. Panthers outside linebacker Thomas Incoom left with a calf injury and did not return; Jaelan Phillips returned in a limited role after leaving earlier. Philadelphia lost Nolan Smith to a concussion, while Jordan Davis injured an ankle, according to the Associated Press. Carolina hosts Tampa Bay next Sunday; the Eagles next host Dallas on October 26.
