Shough’s hand enters Saints report; Olave’s absence is a rest day

New Orleans estimated its Wednesday walkthrough participation, leaving Sunday decisions open.

  • Tyler Shough appeared as limited with a left-hand issue on the Saints’ first injury report for Sunday’s game against Minnesota. Chris Olave was listed as a nonparticipant for rest. Those entries describe different circumstances, and Wednesday’s session supplies a less complete test than a normal practice.

New Orleans conducted a walkthrough on Oct. 7. The club explicitly labeled the participation figures as estimates. Shough’s limited designation therefore does not establish how much throwing or other work he could complete at full speed. It also does not settle his availability for Sunday.

  • Olave’s entry carries an additional clarification. NewOrleans.Football reporter Nick Underhill reported that coach Kellen Moore repeatedly said the receiver was resting, with no injury involved. The Sporting News traced the concern to Olave leaving Monday’s Falcons game after a late hit, then detailed Moore’s explanation that Wednesday’s absence was unrelated to that play and required no testing.

That distinction matters when evaluating the offense. The team’s report identifies a hand issue for its quarterback; it identifies rest for its receiver. Treating both absences as the same kind of injury would overstate what the Saints have disclosed.

  • The report also listed Alvin Kamara as a nonparticipant with a back issue and Barion Brown as a nonparticipant with a thigh issue. Noah Fant’s abdomen issue received a limited estimate. Those entries leave several separate availability questions as New Orleans prepares for the Vikings.

There was movement for two players still on injured reserve: linebacker Jaylan Ford and defensive back Lorenzo Styles Jr. returned to practice and received full-participation estimates. The Saints specified that both remain on reserve, so those entries are not announcements of activation.

  • For fantasy managers, the next useful evidence is the subsequent practice report and eventual game designation. Wednesday establishes the issues to monitor. It does not support declaring Shough unavailable or presenting Olave’s rest day as a new injury.
