  • Chad Ryland supplied every Arizona point Sunday, including the last three with no time remaining. His 43-yard field goal gave the Cardinals an 18-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams and ended a four-game losing streak.

Arizona never reached the end zone. It still left SoFi Stadium with its second victory because Ryland made all six attempts and Jacoby Brissett moved the offense into range after the Rams took their first lead of the second half with 47 seconds left.

Both teams finished the afternoon 2-4. Mike LaFleur earned a victory against Sean McVay, the head coach under whom he previously worked in Los Angeles.

A fumble keeps Arizona in front

Ryland's first five kicks came from 34, 30, 22, 38 and 27 yards. The teams were tied 9-9 at halftime. Two more field goals gave Arizona a 15-9 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles then lost a chance to answer when Cody Simon forced a Tyler Higbee fumble and Denzel Burke recovered. Arizona's official clip captures the turnover:

  • The defense later stopped the Rams on fourth down. Those possessions mattered in a game in which Arizona repeatedly had to settle for kicks, including on its five trips into the red zone.

  • Brissett finished with 218 passing yards. Bam Knight rushed for 80 yards on 15 carries, although cramps limited him after halftime. Tyler Allgeier added 38 yards on 18 attempts.

Brooks sets up the final kick

Matthew Stafford brought Los Angeles back with a late touchdown drive. Puka Nacua's 42-yard reception helped move the Rams downfield before Stafford found Colby Parkinson for a 6-yard touchdown with 47 seconds remaining.

Punter Ethan Evans made the extra point for a 16-15 lead. He had taken over kicking duties after Blake Grupe injured his knee making a tackle on a kickoff. Grupe was subsequently ruled out.

Arizona answered immediately. Brissett hit Jalen Brooks for 21 yards, and a 15-yard unnecessary-roughness penalty against Josh Wallace extended the gain. Allgeier then gained five yards before Ryland finished the game.

FOX Sports' official video shows the winning kick:

  • Stafford passed for 222 yards and two touchdowns. His first scoring throw went 15 yards to Blake Corum; the Rams failed on the ensuing two-point attempt. Arizona held Los Angeles to 286 total yards.

The Rams also lost Davante Adams to a late knee injury. No diagnosis or return timetable was established in the reports reviewed after the game. Arizona defensive lineman Walter Nolen III sustained an ankle injury.

The Cardinals next host Denver. The Rams will visit Las Vegas, looking to recover from a game they led in the final minute but could not close.
