  • Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs will not return to Sunday's home game against the New York Jets with a shoulder injury. Underdog NFL posted the update Sunday afternoon, Oct. 18, a little more than an hour after first listing him as questionable to return, and RotoWire logged the same change.

  • What is confirmed

Doubs got hurt on his best play of the day. He caught a 42-yard touchdown from Drake Maye in the first quarter, was shaken up, visited the medical tent and then went to the locker room. That catch was his only target. Per ESPN's box score, New England led 17-13 with 4:46 left in the third quarter.

DeMario Douglas has picked up the slack with 6 catches for 47 yards and a touchdown on 7 targets. A.J. Brown, in his first game back from injured reserve, has 3 catches for 27 yards on a team-high 10 targets.

    What is still open

The Patriots have not described the injury beyond the shoulder, and there is no timeline. Ruling a player out mid-game can be caution as much as severity, so the real answer comes with the week's practice reports.

What RSO owners should do now

Hold Doubs. Do not cut him or sell him at a discount off one in-game exit, and wait for a diagnosis before you change his value in any contract or trade decision.

Douglas is the add to look at in deeper leagues if you have an open roster spot before your next claim period. He leads the Patriots receivers in catches today. Brown's 10 targets in his return also show where the volume is headed if Doubs misses time, so Brown owners should keep him in lineups.

  • If you were shopping a receiver to a Doubs manager, this week is a fair time to ask about price, but only after the Patriots offer some sense of how long he is out.

    What to watch next

Watch for postgame comments from the Patriots staff on the shoulder, then the first injury report of the week on Wednesday. Limited work by Thursday would point toward Doubs playing in Week 7. No practice at all, or an imaging update, would mean planning around him for at least one game.
