Ladd McConkey is active but may barely play against the Broncos

The Chargers left McConkey off their Week 5 inactive list, but he is not expected to play meaningful snaps with his foot injury. RSO owners should treat him as a bench player for the late-afternoon game.

  • Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey is active for Sunday's Week 5 game against Denver, but Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that he is not expected to play meaningful snaps. McConkey came into the weekend questionable with a foot injury.

  • What is confirmed

The Chargers posted their official inactive list about 75 minutes before the late-afternoon kickoff, and McConkey was not on it. That means he is in uniform and eligible to play.

The inactive list did include wide receivers Quentin Johnston and Brenen Thompson, who were already ruled out on Friday. Safety Derwin James Jr. and tackle Joe Alt are also inactive, along with Rodney Shelley, Donte Jackson and Kayode Awosika.

    What is reported

Schefter's report is the key detail. Active does not mean available for a normal workload here. The expectation is that McConkey dresses as an emergency option and sees little or no regular rotation work.

The Chargers have not said how they plan to use him, and plans like this can change during a game.

Why it matters for RSO rosters

This is a lineup trap. Many sites and lineup tools will show McConkey as active, and a player who is active but limited to a few snaps can post a near-zero score.

  • With Johnston and Thompson also out, the Chargers are thin at receiver today. That makes the passing game harder to predict for everyone involved.

    What to do now

If you have a healthy alternative at receiver or flex, start that player over McConkey before the 4 PM games lock.

Do not trade or drop McConkey over a one-week foot issue. His long-term value is unchanged by one quiet Sunday.

Watch his snap count during the game and the Chargers' first practice report of Week 6. A full practice by midweek would point to a normal role next week.
