Jordyn Tyson won't practice this week and will miss the Saints' Paris game

Saints GM Mickey Loomis said Wednesday that the rookie receiver is improving but will not practice this week. That keeps Tyson out against the Steelers and pushes his earliest debut past the bye to Nov. 8.

  • New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson will not practice this week, general manager Mickey Loomis said Wednesday morning, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and the Saints' own account.

  • What is confirmed

Loomis spoke at a Wednesday press conference. The Saints posted his words on Tyson directly: "He's improving, but he is not going to practice this week." Underdog NFL and ProFootballTalk carried the same update, with Tyson's injury listed as a hamstring.

That rules Tyson out of Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Stade de France outside Paris, since he can't play without practicing first. The Saints have a bye the following week, and their next game after that is a home date with the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 8. That is now the earliest realistic debut.

    What is less certain

Loomis would not give a specific timetable. ProFootballTalk quoted him saying "we feel like we're getting closer," and noted that Tyson has been out since a hamstring injury in mid-August. Head coach Kellen Moore has said this one is unrelated to the hamstring trouble Tyson had in college, but a player who has missed all of training camp and every game so far will likely need a ramp-up once he does practice.

The Saints have been winning without him. Chris Olave, Alvin Kamara and Bryce Lance caught touchdown passes in Sunday's 34-27 win over the Giants.

What RSO owners should do now

If you hold Tyson, nothing changes your plan except the calendar. He is a first-round pick on a rookie deal, so his value in dynasty and contract leagues is about the years ahead, and a lost first half does not change his long-term outlook much. Keep him on IR or your taxi squad if your league allows it, and don't sell him at a discount to managers chasing this week's points.

  • If you have been waiting to buy, this is a fair window. Owners who are tired of a zero in their lineup may move him for a modest price, and the bye gives the Saints two more weeks to get him healthy.

For Olave and Vele owners, the current target share should hold through at least the bye.

    What to watch next

Watch for Tyson's first practice after the bye, the first injury report heading into the Browns game and any comment from Moore on a snap count. A limited first week would point to a slow start rather than a full role right away.
