Jets rule out tight end Kenyon Sadiq with a concussion against the Browns

Sadiq left Sunday's Week 5 game against Cleveland for a head injury evaluation and was later ruled out with a concussion. RSO owners need a tight end plan for the rest of today and a close eye on his Week 6 status.

  • Jets tight end Kenyon Sadiq has been ruled out of Sunday's Week 5 game against the Browns with a concussion. The team first announced during the game that he was being evaluated for a head injury, and NFL.com's Around The NFL and Underdog NFL then reported that he would not return.

  • What is confirmed

The Jets' official account said Sadiq was being evaluated for a head injury shortly after 3 PM ET. About 25 minutes later, Around The NFL posted that he had been ruled out with a concussion, and RotoWire relayed the same update from the team.

That ends his day. Whatever he produced before the injury is what RSO owners get from him this week.

    What is still unknown

The Jets have not said anything about next week. Any player diagnosed with a concussion has to clear the NFL's concussion protocol before he can practice fully and play again, and there is no set timeline for that. Some players clear in a few days. Others miss multiple games.

The first real signal will be whether Sadiq practices at all during Week 6, and in what capacity.

Why it matters for RSO rosters

Sadiq is a young tight end on a rookie contract, which makes him the kind of cheap, long-term piece RSO owners like to hold. One concussion does not change that value, and nobody should sell him low off a single in-game exit.

  • The short-term picture is different. If you start him in a league with in-week lineup flexibility, he is done for today. If you have a bye-week or depth problem at tight end, this is the week to look at your league's free agent pool.

Mason Taylor is the other Jets tight end to watch if Sadiq misses time, since the targets have to go somewhere.

    What to do now

Keep Sadiq rostered. Line up a backup tight end now so you are not scrambling on Saturday if he has not cleared protocol.

Watch the Jets' Wednesday practice report and any comments from the coaching staff early in the week. Limited or full participation by Thursday would point toward him playing in Week 6.
