Glenn's update was confirmed by Connor Hughes of The Athletic and written up by Pro Football Talk, which says Cooper has been designated to return. Cooper, a first-round pick, has been out since Week 1. He hurt the ankle on his only catch of the season opener against the Titans, a 30-yard gain that set up a Kenyon Sadiq touchdown.
What is confirmed
Cooper is back on the practice field this week. Once a player is designated to return, the team has 21 days to add him to the active roster or he stays on IR for the rest of the season. Pro Football Talk notes he could be in play for Sunday's game against the Patriots, but the Jets have not announced an activation.
The rest of the injury news was less encouraging. Glenn called running back Breece Hall (quad) and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (finger) week to week. Hall has missed two games, and Mitchell has missed three after a procedure on the finger. Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press added that guard Dylan Parham and edge rusher Joseph Ossai are also week to week.
Why it matters for RSO owners
With Mitchell still sidelined, the Jets need receiver help, and Cooper's one catch in the opener went for 30 yards. As a first-round rookie, he is likely on a rookie contract in most RSO leagues, so his long-term value is worth protecting through the IR stint.
What to do now
If Cooper is on your IR, keep him there until the Jets activate him. If he was dropped in your league, he is a reasonable stash for owners with an open roster spot, more so in deeper formats. Do not plan to start him in Week 6 until he is activated and logs a full practice.
