Schefter reported that free-agent Dalton is signing with Atlanta. Rapoport, quoting Rush's move in the same window, said the Falcons are releasing Rush to open the roster spot. ESPN's Marc Raimondi and Pro Football Talk both carried the paired move Monday morning. The league's public transaction feed had not yet posted either change as of late morning Eastern, so treat this as strong reporting, not a finished club announcement.
Dalton, 38, was most recently with the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia released him on Oct. 9 after he threw one interception in limited work. When Jalen Hurts went on injured reserve with a blood clot, the Eagles wanted Dalton back; PFT reported he declined and lined up elsewhere. That elsewhere is Atlanta.
Rush started Atlanta's first two games while Michael Penix Jr. (knee) and Tua Tagovailoa (oblique) were sidelined. The Falcons scored a combined 16 points in those starts, the league's lowest total over that stretch, per ESPN. Penix returned and played through rib soreness, including Sunday's 31-23 loss to the Chicago Bears, and said afterward his ribs were not an issue. Tagovailoa and undrafted rookie Jack Strand remain on the roster with Penix and, if the reports hold, Dalton.
What is confirmed in the reporting: Schefter has Dalton joining Atlanta, and Rapoport has Rush being cut in the corresponding move. What is still open: the official waiver posting, any practice-squad path for Rush, and Dalton's exact contract terms. Cap figures were not in the initial reports.
For RSO owners, this is a real roster event. Rush becomes a free agent once the cut processes and is droppable in almost every format after those early starts. Dalton is veteran backup insurance behind Penix, not a Week 7 starter claim unless Penix's health turns again. Watch the official transaction wire and Atlanta's next depth chart before you stash either name. If Rush clears waivers cleanly, teams short on QB depth (including clubs that just lost starters) are the next watch list, not Atlanta's skill players.
