The Philadelphia Eagles are signing quarterback Joe Milton III off the Dallas Cowboys practice squad on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network both reported. Schefter credited Jordan Schultz as well, and Underdog NFL relayed Schultz's note that Milton is joining the Eagles' 53-man roster.
What is confirmed
Rapoport wrote that the Eagles are adding Milton to their quarterback depth after pulling him off Dallas' practice squad. Schefter followed with the Eagles' projected Sunday depth chart against Carolina: Tanner McKee, Cole Payton, and Joe Milton.
Pro Football Talk filled in Milton's path. A 2024 sixth-round pick originally drafted by the Patriots and later traded to Dallas, Milton did not make the Cowboys' opening 53-man roster this season. Dallas waived him and signed him to the practice squad. He has not started an NFL game. In five career appearances he is 37-of-53 for 424 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, plus 66 rushing yards and a rushing score.
PFT tied the move to Jalen Hurts being out indefinitely with a blood clot and noted that bringing Milton in may close the door on a reunion with veteran Andy Dalton, who was released earlier this month and has been weighing offers. McKee is expected to start Sunday against the Panthers.
Why it matters for RSO rosters
This is a clear Philadelphia quarterback depth move while Hurts is sidelined. McKee remains the Week 6 starter and the short-term fantasy play. Milton is not a sudden starter claim; he is third on Schefter's listed Sunday order behind McKee and Payton.
For dynasty and contract formats, Milton is now an Eagles asset instead of a Cowboys practice-squad stash. Owners who rostered him for arm talent and upside should treat him as Philadelphia depth behind an injured Hurts and a starting McKee, not as an automatic Week 6 streamer. Cowboys practice-squad priority on Milton is gone the moment the Eagles complete the signing to the 53.
What to do now
Keep McKee as the Eagles starter for Sunday. Do not elevate Milton over McKee or Payton on Schefter's reported depth chart for this Panthers game.
In dynasty and deep contract leagues, claim or hold Milton if you want Eagles QB depth with Hurts out indefinitely. Drop him from Cowboys-only stash lists.
Watch the official transaction for the 53-man confirmation, Sunday's inactives to see whether Milton is active, and any further Eagles quarterback moves if Dalton or another veteran remains in play.
